Where Should the Last Action Be in the History Tool? Top or Bottom?

The Problem

Our team noticed that users were skipping the history tool in our new project (Graforma. Graphic Editor Online). Hypothesis: unclear visual distinction between new and old actions.

We ran a study and found out that:

52% of users expect new actions at the top (similar to browser history)

48% of users expect them at the bottom (like in older versions of Adobe Photoshop)

The Solution

We added timestamps to each entry in the history tool — and placed the latest action at the top, as it's the most relevant to the user's current workflow.

The Result

After implementing the change:

99% of users now clearly understand the interface.
The history tool is now usedeffectively and intentionally
